by TBear

"When Phil Kilburn of Upstate NY wanted an 80-inch Shovelhead Bobber built, he thought, as many do, that a big shop would be his best bet. He soon learned that with shops, this isn't necessarily true. When Phil finally turned the bike over to Lee at Broadway Choppers in Schenectady, NY the bike was a nightmare. I'll let Broadway Lee tell the rest of the tale of woe: TBear. This other local shop was building Phil two bikes over the last couple years. Neither bike had been delivered yet when we first met Phil, that shop had sent him here for a custom seat pan and we hooked him up with one from Teach at Baas Metalcraft and had Duane Ballard do a badass cover with the owner's company artwork; the hammers were my idea and he loved it. After Phil picked up his first bike from the other shop, immediate problems brought him to us. He was stressing to go to Sturgis and the other bike was not gonna be done (the shovel) so we put his new custom prostreet on the lift, ripped it down and re-assembled it correctly.

New York Rider - Nov 2008

exerpt from: "Mike DiCocco's Broadway Chopper"
by NY Rider

"Mike DiCocco liked to visit Broadway Choppers in Schenectady and always admired the bikes he would see there. During one of those visits, he noticed a frame he really liked, and though he was already the proud owner of a 1998 Harley Softail, he had an idea in his mind about the kind of bike he would like to build, which included a rigid frame, a big back tire, and a few other features. He started the first of many conversations with Lee (owner of Broadway Choppers) and Mike discovered that he and Lee thought along the same lines, and that clinched the deal for him. He decided to have Lee build his dream bike."

New York Rider - Sept 2007

exerpt from: "Johnny Fretto's Bike"
by NY Rider

"Johnny is a good friend who works at the Albany County Sheriff's Department. We first met when he had one of the first Twin Cam Harleys and was having cavity problems. We informed hime of the Harley recall and made a few phone calls and we got the problem taken care of by Harley on the recall, even though it was a out of state 2nd owner bike. As he hung at the shop and rode with us he decided to have us build him a Broadway Chopper, or as he named this one, the Broadway Brawler."

American Iron Magazine - March 2005

exerpt from: "Back From The Grave - Neil Cuomo's resurrected 1960 Ironhead chopper"   by Teddy Babolcsay

"When the boxes and boxes of used, grimy parts finally arrived at Neil's shop, he stashed them away and began painting the guy's bike.  A few months later, Neil and his buddy Lee from Broadway Choppers started to unpack and rummage through all the bits and pieces he had stored away in a dark corner.  What they found was the usual basket case parts: a torn down engine and transmission, bent handlebars, etc.   When they started ripping away all the bubble wrap and paper that contained the frame they struck gold!  Hidden under years of bad paint, they found an original California Diamond frame in otherwise good shape.

The frame was hand made back in the early 1970s by Jim DeFew from Tennessee and was one of only 10 ever built.  It's a one-piece frame with a diamond-shaped gas tank molded right onto it."

Street Chopper - February 2005

exerpt from: "Panhead Rocker Boxes for a Twin Cam"  by TBear

"I wanted this done right the first time, and since my area of expertise is Panheads and not the new-fangled T.C. engines, I took my ride and the kit up to Broadway Choppers in Schenectady, New York. A few of the guys in the shop helped me out: Lee and Ryan. Lee has a sterling reputation as an engine god, and Ryan has been wrenching at Harley dealerships for quite a few years before Lee snagged him for Broadway."

"These were the guys I wanted working on my main transportation."

The Horse Magazine - January 2000

exerpt from: "Horse Sense"
by Harry G. Pellegrin

"Mention Schenectady in the same sentence with bikes (choppers, to be precise) along with creativity and style and the name Broadway Choppers will undoubtedly be spoken. Broadway Choppers has been in business for three years now (since 1997), carving beautiful stripped-down asphalt warriors from the obese stock factory offerings and also producing some of the finest frame-up custom creations to be seen.
